MMVS Day Celebration

MMVS Day was observed at our church on Sunday, August 21, on the auspicious occasion of the 40th anniversary of Morth Mariam Vanitha Samajam in the NorthEast American Diocese. A token of appreciation was presented to the previous MMVS office bearers by the vicar during a brief meeting held after the Holy Qurbana. Anni Varughese, a senior MMVS member, gave a brief acknowledgement on behalf of all the former office bearers. The meeting ended with a Photo session.

MMVS Charity Drive

Initiated by our parish MMVS, a charity drive was held on 20th of August 2022. A portion of money earned from the bake sale in June as well as donations from members were used for this. Additionally, there were necessaries which MMVS members donated. Packets for women and children and a cheque were handed over to the Ernestine Women’s Shelter at Etobicoke, on Saturday, August 20, 2022.

40th Anniversary of the Diocesan MMVS in North America

40th Anniversary of the Diocesan MMVS in North America
The Diocese has planned the following events to celebrate the 40th Anniversary of the MMVS in North America:
1. 40th-anniversary ceremony will be held on October 1, 2022, at St Thomas Indian Orthodox Church in Unruh, Philadelphia.
2. Women who were a part of the MMVS prior to 1982 are being honoured.
3. Provide educational assistance to 40 children for a year. A raffle voucher sale will be held for this purpose. Each family can purchase a raffle ticket for $40 USD. Please save a dollar every day during Great Lent and participate in the raffle coupon sale. There’s also the option of sponsoring a child for a year. The expense for this is $1500 US dollars.
The raffle coupon draw will take place on October 1st, 2022 during the anniversary ceremony.

Our Parish MMVS Team Receiving Trophy for Winning First Place in the Diocesan level Quiz Competition 2021

Our parish quiz team won first place in the diocesan Bible quiz (held on Oct 02). We share the 1st place with St Thomas Yonkers. There were three teams tied for second place: St George Port Chester NY, St Gregorios Bensalem & St Mary’s OC Philadelphia. The 3rd place was won by St Mary’s Lindon, New Jersey. Our church had won first place last year too. Hope the legacy will go on!

Bible Study: 
Every Thursday 8.30 – 9.30 pm. The study is based on the books Amos – Malachi led by Rev Fr VM Shibu (Vicar, St Gregorios Orthodox Church Bensalem).

Soonoyo Retreat

Our parish MMVS has organised a retreat for all our members during Soonoyo lent on Saturday August 14, 09:30 am – 12:00 noon.

Mrs Merlin T Mathew will be leading the retreat. Merlin Kochamma is a well known speaker and a spiritual guide highly in demand. Let us keep the retreat in prayer. We wish that the retreat will be a great blessing and an occasion for our spiritual renewal. Please remember the date and join.

MMVS Meeting: Talk on Women Care and their Projects

Khadija Kathy Ali, Coordinator Engagement and Volunteers at Earnestine’s Women Shelter will be talking about ‘Women care and their Projects’.

We request all our women members to join the meeting. The link shall be made accessible to our members.

MMVS Charity

Our parish MMVS is starting a charity fundraiser for the year 2021. 

Part of the collection will go to GTA charity organizations focusing on the welfare of women & children and the rest will be to a charity organization in Kerala. We expect everyone’s support. Those who wish to support, they can send donations to treasurer@sgoctoronto.org
